The great Pierre Étaix, a giant of French cinema, has sadly passed away on Friday 14th October 2016.
Étaix, clown, magician, screenwriter, actor-director, was one of the kings of French Comic Cinema, having worked in the course of his outstanding career with greats like Jacques Tati and Jean-Claude Carrière, with whom he became firm friends. His passing is indeed a huge loss to the world of cinema.
Cork French Film Festival had the immense honour and privilege of welcoming this great legend to Cork in 2012 as our special guest for the 23rd edition. That year, the Artistic Director featured a complete retrospective of his films, which included the legendary Yoyo.

With his dapper, man-about-town persona Cork audiences loved him and turned out in large numbers to the screenings and Q&As.
