Michel Legrand in concert at the Everyman Palace, Cork, in association with Alliance Française de Cork and Cork Guinness Jazz Festival, celebrating 25 years of our French Film Festival.
It is difficult to pin the legendary Michel Legrand into one single category.
This amazingly versatile French jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, conductor and producer has enjoyed a whirlwind career, excelling in an impressively broad range of domains from film soundtracks and French ‘chanson’ to jazz and classical music.
From Paris, Michel is one of the most successful foreign-born composers ever to grace the American best-seller lists. From his very first success in the United States with the memorable, “I Love Paris,” in 1954, his productivity has continued unabated and to prove it, he currently has three Oscar Awards and three Grammy Awards.
His most unforgettable work is the classic 1964 film, “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg,
” which marked his first recognition from the Motion Picture Academy.”
