Situated in the heart of this vibrant ‘cultural capital’, Alliance Française de Cork is your tangible link with French life – un petit coin de France au coeur de la ville de Cork since 1947.
This year, AF de Cork will celebrate 70 years of teaching excellence as the longest established language school and cultural centre in the city, dedicated to the fostering of Franco-Irish cultural bonds.
As an internationally recognised label of quality, the Alliance Française has a long-standing tradition of excellence and expertise in teaching French.
At Alliance Française de Cork we offer courses for all ages and levels, from pre-school, primary, secondary, to third-level and adults. At 22.5 hours per term for group tuition with comfortable class sizes, our courses for Adults are at an optimum course length in line with the CEFR recommendations for course progression.
All our tutors are fully-qualified educators and French native speakers and our personalised service ensures a clear understanding of each student’s needs and objectives - we can assess students’ levels, advise them on the best course options, whether they wish to learn French for pleasure, business or exam purposes.
Alliance Française de Cork has been nominated the Official Exam Centre in Cork for the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de Paris Ile-de-France DFP Diplomas.
Through this new partnership with the Centre de Langue Française de la CCFIP, we are delighted to introduce our new Professional French Diplomas, officially recognised by the French Ministry of Education, as well as by a wide range of third-level and academic institutions in the francophone world, international business and industry.
This initiative is in response to the increasing demand from the business sector in Cork and throughout Munster for specialisation in French. Through this new partnership, our students will have an excellent opportunity to upskill.
The AF also offers a ‘language laboratory programme’ (Speedlingua) to improve oral comprehension and expression , uses smartboard-technology to enhance language-learning, and distance learning courses are currently being developed.
Courses for pre-schoolers, and primary-age children are also on offer (including a French through art programme), and wide range of programmes for second-level students with special 10-week long and weekend preparation courses for the Leaving Cert Ora l exam scheduled for the new term. Exam preparation for Third-level is also available.
We endeavour to offer more in the language-learning experience. As a vibrant cultural centre with monthly exhibitions, conferences, master-classes, and the annual Cork French Film Festival in March, we offer students a genuine and tangible link with France and French culture.
All our students have automatic access to our resource centre which is unique in Cork, of books, magazines and DVDs, and to our monthly book club.
Alliance Française de Cork is the longest-established language and cultural centre in the dynamic city of Cork. It has been working to strengthen the bonds between France and Ireland since the 1940’s and we hope it will go on for at least another century.
This year, AF de Cork will celebrate 71 years of teaching excellence as the longest established language school and cultural centre in the city, dedicated to the fostering of Franco-Irish cultural bonds. In the early post-war days, in 1947, Rachel Burrows, the great educationalist and former student of Samuel Beckett in Trinity College Dublin, gathered together 80 like-minded Francophiles in Cork and so the Alliance Française was founded.
The Alliance Française de Cork (AFC) offers a wide variety of high quality French courses for adults, students, teenagers and children at all levels. There is always an option for you, whether you are looking to learn, practice or maintain your French. You can choose between a one-on-one class tailored to your specific needs or join one of our group classes. In our classes, the instructors use modern and innovative textbooks and material as well as authentic documents.
If you need to prove your French level, you can take either the DELF/DALF, TEF or DFP exams.
For adult courses, the AFC uses the Common European Framework of reference for Languages (CEFRL) which divides your ability in French in different levels as explained below.
